Alexandre Matt said that great innovations come from great limitations. It is through hardships that we evolve in to a better version of ourselves. We strive every Saturday to get out of our comfort zones and try goals which are just outside of our reach. We get uncomfortable while doing that. And that drives us to beat our own expectations. Come join us if you think you can get uncomfortable, because growth is never comfortable.

When hardships come into your life it breaks you for a while, but when it is done with you evolve into a new person. - Madalsa Sharma

Meeting Minutes

Hello Everyone,
We have almost reached the end of 2022. How far is your journey in Toastmasters this year? At today's meeting, our guests and members tried to evolve by trying different roles, giving different speeches, and responding to different topics.

The meeting starts sharp at 10.00 AM KST and is opened by our VPE DTM JJ. We plan to replace some of the role-takers since some of them did not show up. Fortunately, it didn't happen because all the role-takers appeared after a few minutes.

Adarsh as Toastmaster of the meeting tells a short story about the theme. Today was his first time at The Speakers Lounge as TOM. He runs the meeting smoothly and ensures good transitions in each session. Also, during introductions, he gives some insights into the background of the speakers and gets us to know them better. Bravo Adarsh for your first time as TOM at TSL.

The general evaluator team was led today by Arifah. She gave a lot of constructive feedback to role-takers and our club meeting. What is special today is that we also have a Table Topic Evaluator (TTE.) It's rare in our club. And today’s meeting TM Amran gives all table topic speakers lots of feedback and tips on how to improve themselves at impromptu speaking.

Table Topic Sessions with 8 Table topics speakers

The energetic and calm table topic master Shwe Sin led the sessions smoothly. We heard 8 different types of good stories on different topics from 8 participants.

The first speaker, Joseph, talked about change. He shared some stories from his life about how much he has changed since he was young. He thought change is something that we humans can't avoid. Sandar starts her speech with her favorite song. For her, when she is sad, singing a song can make her feel better. Dwi said that we can’t judge a book by its cover. And to be respected, we must give respect to others.

A good shared from Donna reminded us that time is precious, and we should use it well as a gift to our future selves. DTM Bee Chu shares her precious moment with her grandmother, whom she found to be the most unforgettable person in her life. Awiny shares one of the secrets of her happiness. She shares that knowing someone is happy because of you is one of the best feelings in the world. Indah told her story about aligning integrity by choosing our actions and thoughts.

Prepare Speeches & Evaluations

Although we only had 2 speakers today, it was a long-prepared speech session. Our first speaker, Sylvester, gives his last speech from his pathway presentation mastery, "Reflect on your path". He shared his journey when he took on various roles as an EXCO in his club. Also, his experience as a contest chair at a speech contest. Congratulations, Sylvester, for completing his pathway Presentation Mastery.

Our second speaker DTM JJ shares his Level 4 project from his pathway effective coaching with Q&A session. He shared a unique and informative speech. It's about the upcoming planning of a club speech contest in 2023. He uses a good narrative of his favorite movie stars wars and links it to the speech contest. Some members excitedly asked questions, and he answered them promptly.

We have 2 evaluators, DTM JJ & Dian. Both evaluators share their insightful feedback and suggestions to improve the speaker's speech.

Thank you to all committees, members, visiting toastmasters, and guests who supported our meeting today. We have 23 people who attended the meeting including 2 speakers, 2 evaluators, and 8 table speakers.

Congratulations to all the winners:

Best speaker: Sylvester Lytton Seah
Best evaluator: Dian Halleyuisari
Best table topic speakers: Joseph Tan and Sandar Htay
Best role players: Adarsh Chandran and Noor Mohammad, DTM

We still have one more meeting and it would be our club a year-end party in 2022. Please come and join us. Remember to wear your favorite costume character and prepare your favorite drink. Feel free to share your story. What lessons have you learned in 2022? And what resolutions do you have for 2023?

Hope to see you all on Saturday. Let’s celebrate the year-end party together. Cheers!
